PRE OPERATIVE INFORMATION
Pre-operative Information:
Preparing for Surgery: Before your surgery at OSPINE Surgical Center, it’s important to follow the pre-operative instructions provided by your physician. This may include fasting for a certain period before surgery, stopping certain medications, and avoiding smoking.
Medical History and Medications: During your pre-operative appointment, your physician and their team will review your medical history and current medications. It’s important to provide accurate information about any medical conditions you have and any medications you’re taking, including any blood thinners, Aspirin, any weight loss medications, blood pressure medications, insulin, diabetes medications, and all other medications. You should also include information of all the over-the-counter and herbal supplements that you take. Following reviewing of all your medications, your physician and their team will tell you what medications to stop prior to your surgery, and when to stop those medications. You will have to also make sure it is okay with your prescribing doctor and primary care doctor prior to stopping those medications.
Pre-operative Tests: Your physician may order pre-operative tests, such as blood tests, imaging tests, and electrocardiograms (ECG), to ensure you’re healthy enough for surgery, and to help perform risk stratification to allow for better shared decision making, if you are electing to proceed with elective surgery. These tests help your medical team plan for a safe and successful surgery.
Anesthesia Consultation: You may meet with an anesthesiologist before surgery to discuss the anesthesia plan for your procedure. It’s important to discuss any concerns you have about anesthesia and to follow any pre-operative instructions provided by the anesthesiologist.
Preparing for Recovery: Before surgery, it’s important to prepare for your recovery at home. This may include arranging for someone to drive you home after surgery, stocking up on necessary supplies, and preparing your home for your return.
Follow-up Appointments: If you have any questions relating your surgery, you should discuss them all with your surgeon during follow-up appointment or during your pre-operative appointment. Your surgeon and their team will answer all your questions, and will discuss your surgery plan and address any concerns you may have. It’s important to attend these appointment(s) to ensure you’re prepared for surgery.
Questions and Concerns: If you have any questions or concerns about your surgery or the pre-operative process, don’t hesitate to contact your physician. It’s important to be informed and prepared for your surgery to ensure the best possible outcome.
